Katherine “Kim” Carter, 71, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a long and courageous battle with illness. She was a beloved wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose laugh, smile, and generous heart left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew and loved her. Kim was preceded in death by her parents Sanford Ham Sr and Bettie Ham, the love of her life, Danny Lee Carter, with whom she shared 26 devoted years of marriage. She remained dedicated to and deeply in love with Danny until her final breath. She was also preceded in death by her children, Tabatha Carter and Shane Carter, and Scott Ham. After the passing of her husband, Kim made Carteret County her home. She especially loved living in Pine Knoll Shores, where the beach brought her peace and comfort. She treasured the close-knit coastal community and the many friends who became family. She found joy in the simple things—walking the beach, fishing, reading, crafting, spending time with family and friends, sharing stories, and filling every room with laughter. Her beautiful smile could brighten anyone’s day, and her laughter was truly contagious. Although life brought more than its share of hardships, Kim faced every challenge with extraordinary strength, grace, and perseverance. Through countless health battles, she continued to meet each day with courage, unwavering faith in the Lord, and a determination that inspired everyone around her. She reminded those who loved her that even during life’s most difficult moments, hope, kindness, and love could still shine through. Kim leaves behind her family, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness, humor, and generous spirit. While words cannot fill the void left by her passing, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Those who loved Kim find comfort in knowing she has been joyfully reunited with Danny and the loved ones who went before her. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the family members, friends, neighbors, caregivers, and hospice staff who surrounded Kim with compassion, dignity, and unwavering love throughout her final journey. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten. Though she will be deeply missed, Kim’s legacy is one of love, resilience, forgiveness, faith, and perseverance.
